Peruvian Miguel Rodriguez started the Sacred Family Community orphanage 20 years ago, after being awakened to the poverty in his own country. He left his job as the director of a news agency, sold all he had, and moved his family to Zapalla, a squatter community near Lima. He set up a home there for abandoned children.
Now over 700 children call the orphanage home. The facility includes 13 casas, a chapel, a partially completed school, a clinic, a bakery, a woodshop, and a sewing shop.

The children attend school year round in the first floor of a partially completed school on the orphanage property. There are 30 teachers reponsible for the education all 700 children.
