We're Home!

As this is being written, we are on our final leg of this trip – flying from Houston to DFW. By the time this is posted, we will be safely home, carried every step of the way by God’s grace and favor. He has blessed so many, in so many ways this past week. We experienced an abundance of miracles.

On our last day in Peru, Saturday, we took a bus tour of Lima, stopping to see some of the sites and to do a little shopping for souvenirs. It was great to have the entire team together and have a chance to share stories from the week with each other. (Please continue to check the blog; we plan to share more stories as we have time to process our experience.)

Before leaving the hotel, we took time to sign a section of the wall. The walls in the hotel courtyard are full of signatures from previous guests. Shawn did a great job drawing the Southmont logo, and we all added our names.

We left our mark on Peru, and the people of Peru have left their mark on our hearts. This trip may be over, but the journey is just beginning!

Our Story

January 2 - 10, 2010 thirty-one members and friends of Southmont Baptist Church traveled to Sagrada Familia Communidad de Ninos, an orphanage near Lima, Peru. The team conducted Vacation Bible School for the children, taught ESL classes, provided training for the teachers at the orphanage school, and helped with construction of the second floor of the school. God has done amazing things since that trip! Two of the team members, Lauren and Nancy, returned to the orphanage to teach in the school. They are also leading many Bible studies in the orphanage. They have begun working with the community surrounding the orphanage, teaching the Bible in some of the public schools, and starting a house church. A group of college students from Southmont traveled to the orphanage in May to lead a backyard Bible club and work on projects around the orphanage. Lauren and Nancy have begun to see a harvest, as children and adults are committing their lives to follow Christ!

... for the team that God is assembling to travel to Peru in December.

... for the plans and preparations for our upcoming trip, that God will lead us in preparing for the job He has for us to do.

... that God will continue to move in the hearts of His children in Peru, that we would see a great harvest!

... for Nancy and Lauren as they finish up their first year teaching at the orphanage, continuing to share the Gospel through word and deed.

... for all those in Peru who were, and continue to be, touched by the gospel of Jesus Christ through our involvement as well as the involvement of other Christians. Pray that they will commit their lives to following Christ.
