New Friends

One of the unexpected blessings of this trip was the friendships we formed with our translators. Those of us on Facebook have become Facebook Friends with them; it has been so much fun to continue our communication with them, and to see the pictures that they took during the week and posted to Facebook. Here are a few pictures that Karina, one of the translators, posted:

(Chris joined our team sort of at the last minute. He is a good friend of Bruce and Donna - they've known him since he was five. He used to live in Lima, speaks fluent Spanish, and has a passion for sharing the gospel. He fit right in with our group and was an invaluable part of the team.)

Our Story

January 2 - 10, 2010 thirty-one members and friends of Southmont Baptist Church traveled to Sagrada Familia Communidad de Ninos, an orphanage near Lima, Peru. The team conducted Vacation Bible School for the children, taught ESL classes, provided training for the teachers at the orphanage school, and helped with construction of the second floor of the school. God has done amazing things since that trip! Two of the team members, Lauren and Nancy, returned to the orphanage to teach in the school. They are also leading many Bible studies in the orphanage. They have begun working with the community surrounding the orphanage, teaching the Bible in some of the public schools, and starting a house church. A group of college students from Southmont traveled to the orphanage in May to lead a backyard Bible club and work on projects around the orphanage. Lauren and Nancy have begun to see a harvest, as children and adults are committing their lives to follow Christ!

... for the team that God is assembling to travel to Peru in December.

... for the plans and preparations for our upcoming trip, that God will lead us in preparing for the job He has for us to do.

... that God will continue to move in the hearts of His children in Peru, that we would see a great harvest!

... for Nancy and Lauren as they finish up their first year teaching at the orphanage, continuing to share the Gospel through word and deed.

... for all those in Peru who were, and continue to be, touched by the gospel of Jesus Christ through our involvement as well as the involvement of other Christians. Pray that they will commit their lives to following Christ.
