Pray for Lauren

Lauren is staying in Peru for five more weeks. She leaves today for a two week backpacking trip with Miguel and the graduating seniors from the orphanage. At the end of the two weeks, she will stay at the orphanage three more weeks. Please pray for Lauren:

Pray for her physical stamina, as she will be hiking many miles with a very heavy backpack.

Pray for her physical health, that she will not be affected by altitude sickness, or suffer any intestinal problems from anything she eats or drinks.

Pray for her physical safety.

Pray for her spiritual and emotional stamina, that as she gives of herself to the kids, God will fill her back up as only He can.

Pray for the students on the trip, for relationship building and opportunities to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Pray for Brian and Lisa; they are sure that Lauren is exactly where God wants her to be, but it is still difficult sending your child off into such an unknown situation. They will likely not hear from her for the two weeks she is on the backpacking trip. Pray for God's peace to overwhelm them.

Our Story

January 2 - 10, 2010 thirty-one members and friends of Southmont Baptist Church traveled to Sagrada Familia Communidad de Ninos, an orphanage near Lima, Peru. The team conducted Vacation Bible School for the children, taught ESL classes, provided training for the teachers at the orphanage school, and helped with construction of the second floor of the school. God has done amazing things since that trip! Two of the team members, Lauren and Nancy, returned to the orphanage to teach in the school. They are also leading many Bible studies in the orphanage. They have begun working with the community surrounding the orphanage, teaching the Bible in some of the public schools, and starting a house church. A group of college students from Southmont traveled to the orphanage in May to lead a backyard Bible club and work on projects around the orphanage. Lauren and Nancy have begun to see a harvest, as children and adults are committing their lives to follow Christ!

Please join us in praying...

... for the team that God is assembling to travel to Peru in December.

... for the plans and preparations for our upcoming trip, that God will lead us in preparing for the job He has for us to do.

... that God will continue to move in the hearts of His children in Peru, that we would see a great harvest!

... for Nancy and Lauren as they finish up their first year teaching at the orphanage, continuing to share the Gospel through word and deed.

... for all those in Peru who were, and continue to be, touched by the gospel of Jesus Christ through our involvement as well as the involvement of other Christians. Pray that they will commit their lives to following Christ.
